Asma graduated from NED University, Karachi, Pakistan in 1994 with a degree in Civil Engineering. She worked as a structural engineer in Karachi for a few years and then moved to the US for further studies. Asma did MS and PhD from George Mason University (GMU), USA, in 2007. Since she has been working as a consultant to departments of transportation in the DC Metropolitan Area. She also teaches as an adjunct faculty at George Mason University. She is a licensed professional engineer in the states of Virginia, Maryland and North Carolina.
Asma believes in giving back to her Alma Mater, NED University, in whatever way she can. She has been volunteering for NED Alumni Association of Washington, DC, in various capacities. She also volunteers for NED International Alumni Network of north America. Asma is a core member of Lead the Nation, NED University mentorship group.
Asma is a true Karachiite for her love for Chai (no Chai Tea, please) and good food. She enjoys travelling, reading, watching thrillers and hanging out with friends. For her association with NED University, she quotes Faiz Ahmed Faiz as,
